Systemic Risk

The risk of collapse of an entire financial system or market, as opposed to the risk associated with any individual entity, resulting from the interdependency of participants.

Gained urgency in the 2008 financial crisis, leading to the creation of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) to identify and mitigate this type of risk.
