Federal Funds Rate

The target interest rate that U.S. commercial banks charge one another for overnight borrowing to maintain their reserve requirements.

It is the primary tool of the Federal Reserve for conducting Monetary Policy, gaining its key status after WWII as the Fed sought better control over short-term rates.
