Defined Benefit Plan (Pension)

An employer-sponsored retirement plan where the benefit received by the employee is computed using a formula that considers factors like salary history and length of employment.

These plans were common from the mid-20th century but have become rarer as companies shift the investment risk to the employee through Defined Contribution Plans.
