Bubble

A market situation characterized by asset prices rising quickly and above their fundamental value, often driven by investor exuberance, until a sudden, sharp collapse.

Famous examples include the 17th-century Dutch Tulip Mania and the 1720 South Sea Bubble. The term gained renewed prominence during the Dot-com Bubble of the late 1990s.
