Basis Point (bp)

A unit of measure equal to one one-hundredth of one percentage point (0.01%). It is used to denote changes in interest rates and bond yields.

The term became standard jargon in the financial industry in the mid-20th century to precisely communicate minute changes in yields, particularly in the complex fixed-income market.
